Mercedes-Benz Future Truck 2025 – Autonomous Driving Is Here

Back in the day, it was predicted that we would having flying cars by now. Well, we got people working on it but there is still a lot of work that needs to be done before anything feasible comes of it. The next best thing we have going for the automotive industry is autonomous driving. For some odd reason, people are really lazy and they want computers to do the driving for us. I guess people just don’t have a passion for driving anymore. The Mercedes-Benz Future Truck 2025 is set to premiere at the 2014 International Commercial Vehicle show (IAA) in Hannover, Germany.

The biggest highlight of the Future Truck 2025 is its autonomous driving system that Mercedes-Benz has tested in realistic traffic conditions in Germany traveling at speeds as high as 50mph. The truck features a slew of radar sensors which scan around the truck and head of the truck and constantly exchanging information. There is a warning system in place which notifies the driver of any imminent collisions with stationary objects as a Blind Spot Assist system that helps the driver see other road users when turning. Watch the video below to see what the vehicle is all about.

Peugeot 208 HYbrid 2L Powered By Compressed Air

Hybrid vehicles are pretty popular these days and the trend will continue. Peugeot has taken the hybrid idea and taken it into a different direction with their HYbrid Air technology. The Peugeot 208 HYbrid Air 2L is capable of returning a fuel economy of 2L/100km (117mpg US / 141mpg UK). Those are some impressive numbers!

HYbrid Air works just like your standard hybrid system but instead of having a battery pack as a secondary power source, it uses compressed air which is stored in a tank located in the back of the vehicle. The system uses a hydraulics to manage between the engine and the compressed air. The air tank replenishes when you apply the brakes (just like regenerative braking systems) and it takes a total of 10 seconds to fill up. The Peugeot 208 HYbrid Air features a 1.2-liter engine producing 82 horsepower but not details on the combined power. The vehicle weighs in at only 1,896 pounds and is set to make its debut at the Paris Motor Show.
