There aren’t many SUV’s being built today which represent the true essence of off-roading. We have the affordable Jeep Wrangler which is pretty damn good when it comes to ‘bang for buck’. Another great option is the Land Rover Defender which can be relatively cheap if you don’t go too fancy with the option but unfortunately it’s not available in North America. And then we have the might Mercedes-Benz G-Class. This is one of my favorite vehicles of all time. The company has unveiled their newest model to the lineup called the G500 4×4².
This particular model will make its debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show next month and depending on the response, Mercedes-Benz may or may not make it available for sale. I hope they do even if I’ll never be able to afford it. The G500 4×4² uses the body of the standard G-500 while utilizing the all-wheel drive system with portal axes from the G63 AMG 6×6 model (another vehicle worth checking out).
The SUV also uses the new 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine known for its lightweight construction, great power delivery, and its efficiency. The V8 biturbo engine on the G500 4×4² puts down 416 horsepower and is linked to a seven-speed 7G-tronic automatic gearbox. It’s hard to miss that this G500 has a much higher ride height with the ground clearance measuring in at 17.7-inches while the standard G500 has a clearance of 8.3-inches. This SUV also has a fording depth of 3.3-ft which is quite impressive. It will be able to tack the sand dunes, rock terrain, and water without any issues.
The G500 4×4² also receives wider fenders, LED light strips above the windscreen, and AMG front bumper. No details on possible pricing.
